In order to increase its chances for inclusion, Cluj – Someseni International Airport - CLJ must start working on building-up a cargo-terminal, an onsite or nearby hotel, extend its main runway and boost its regional air-traffic connections to more European destinations. Air-traffic surged 35 % in 2004 comparative with 2004 and it appears now that Czech Airline, Malev Hungarian and British Airways are all interested in operating routes out of Cluj to Prague, Budapest and London.

Report’s conclusion is that necessary work at resurfacing the existent runway will cost an estimated US $10 Mil while another US $ 5 Mil would likely be needed to expand and upgrade the existent passenger-terminal. TDA expressed its availability to co-finance the proposed modernization project if Local Authority could work-out a provisional legal-frame to allow TDA to amortize its investment. So far Bacau’s Local Authority seems to be committed to cut a deal with TDA, and pledges to contribute with budgeted funds in excess of half million dollars towards the project.
